Brandon’s family has a nickname for him, and it stuck for a reason: nearly everywhere they go, someone knows him and has a story about the connection he created. Mike and Cathy describe a son whose warmth arrives before he does.
One story lands especially hard. Brandon’s presence at his father’s workplace brought so much joy and value that the company’s president described him as a gift to the entire organization.

Community as an extension of family
Brandon talks about programs that helped him build confidence and discover new interests — Think Ahead at Dutchess Community College, Community Based Services, Hudson Valley InterArts, theater, and sports among them. He speaks openly about wanting to be recognized as a complete person, with feelings, dreams, and a strong sense of identity, rather than as a label.
His parents reflect on what he has taught them: patience, empathy, optimism, nonjudgment, and how to stay in the present moment. Along the way there is the influence of Brandon’s sister, the value of inclusive recreation through Challenger Sports, theater with the Standing Room Only program, upcoming roles in The Wizard of Oz, and college graduation as a defining personal achievement.
For parents in the thick of it, there is practical encouragement too: how they found programs through networking and other families, and why it pays to actively seek out opportunities rather than wait for them to appear.
Looking ahead
Brandon shares dreams of exploring music production, performance, and engineering. Above all, he hopes to leave a legacy centered on happiness, peace, love, and joy. It is a funny, warm, deeply generous conversation, and it makes a simple case: a full life is built through relationships, meaningful engagement, creative expression, and the courage to say yes.
