About the Course

This six-week introductory photography course is designed for anyone interested in learning the foundations of photography using the camera they already carry every day — their smartphone. Whether you're a student exploring a creative interest, an adult rediscovering a passion for photography, or someone who simply wants to see the world differently, this course offers an accessible and engaging introduction to photographic storytelling and visual composition.

Students will learn essential photography concepts including composition, perspective, lighting, framing, and storytelling while developing a stronger creative eye. The course also introduces simple editing techniques using the free mobile version of Adobe Lightroom, available for both iPhone and Android.

Rather than focusing on social media trends or technical jargon, the class emphasizes photography as an art form and a way of observing the world more intentionally. Through guided exercises, group discussions, and hands-on shooting assignments, participants build confidence in creating compelling images in everyday environments.

No prior photography experience is required, and all skill levels are welcome. Students need only a smartphone and an interest in creativity, observation, and visual storytelling.

About Leon Cato

Leon Cato

Leon Cato is a New York-based photographer and visual artist whose work spans architecture, interiors, portraiture, and documentary storytelling. Leon began his photography journey in 2003 after receiving a fully manual film camera from his uncle — an experience that sparked a lifelong fascination with the art of seeing and visual storytelling.

After working in corporate marketing and earning an MBA in New York City, Leon transitioned into professional photography full-time while living in London, where he began photographing luxury properties and architectural spaces. Since returning to New York in 2012, he has photographed thousands of residential and commercial projects for construction firms, interior designers, architects, and brands like Airbnb and Wayfair.

Alongside his commercial work, Leon creates personal documentary and fine-art projects exploring identity, emotion, isolation, and human connection. His work has been highlighted by the Huffington Post, Creative Boom, and the Daily Mail. He has also taught photography through continuing-education programs and enjoys helping new photographers develop confidence, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the visual world around them.
