A class designed to accommodate special needs, providing them the opportunity of artistic self expression. Choreography is adapted to enable all members of the class to participate to the best of their abilities. The class consists of a warm up, dance movements and routines using props such as shakers and scarves to add upper body movement as well as participation in both the musical and the kinesthetic aspect of dance. Making music is an integral part of being human, and by incorporating shakers into our class, we give everyone the opportunity to create and participate in music, from the very simple to complicated classical pieces. In addition, using shakers enables students both to work as a team, and for each student to be a leader. The ability to work cooperatively with others is a skill that translates into virtually every aspect of life. The opportunity to serve as a leader serves as a confidence builder as well as a source of self pride. The use of scarves, similarly, is a chance to participate in creating and moving to rhythm. We combine the visual and auditory stimulation with a practiced routine, incorporating the element of dance, and producing a complete aesthetic experience. For those looking to explore dance in community and share in the joy of movement. Open to all abilities.
