Jeff Greenfield

Jeff has been playing guitar since he was a teenager. He has a great love for the classic rock songs of the 60’s, and 70’s. And, sharing that love with participants of his music therapy groups is easy for him because almost everyone knows and loves these classic songs! But, not everyone knows the lyrics! Jeff makes sure that everyone has a printed set of lyrics in front of them for every song he plays, not only so that they can sing along, but to learn the actual words that were not always pronounced clearly by the artists who made the songs famous. His Master’s Degree in Education and over 40 years of experience supporting individuals with special needs helps him to teach appreciation of this music. Jeff has been providing music therapy/appreciation for more than ten years. An observer and fellow musician once commented that the sound of Jeff’s one acoustic guitar “fills” the room. (Classic rock was never intended to be played softly!) Occasionally, he will also play the recorded songs by the original artists, knowing that many of the participants love to hear the songs the way they heard them on the radio. He always encourages each person’s individual style of participation, whether it be playing along to the rhythm with a tambourine or other percussion instrument, singing along, dancing to the rhythm, or simply listening in silence. He teaches the proper way to play the various percussion instruments, endeavoring to teach the rhythm of the songs. He also offers participation in the actual playing of the guitar. His end goal is for participants to have fun, feel glad they came, and to look forward to the next session!
